They say a problem shared is a problem halved, right?
Well, this saying has made me decide to share my “problems” for two reasons;
1. I think it will help me feel better
2. It might help someone else, in a similar situation, feel better, maybe?
I guess I should start of by sharing some of my problems.
I am 30 years old and at the age of 26 I was simultaneously diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, known as an ASD, and PAH Pulmonary Hypertension. I will go into detail about how I got my diagnosis some other time.
This is me, Vicki!
Since my diagnosis I have slowly (not slowly enough in my opinion) declined in health. In August 2018 I was fitted with a Hickman Line to deliver continuous IV medication for my PH. It was at this time the decision made to begin talking transplantation; starting with going to see doctors at the Royal Papworth Hospital.
I was due to go for my assessment in March 2020, but (you guessed it!) COVID put paid to that. My appointment was rescheduled, and in August I was assessed to see if I was suitable for a transplant. Thankfully, I was added to the list for a lung-heart transplant on the 2nd of September.
Now here we are; a few months into the wait and living through a global pandemic! I’m not stressed about it though... not at all... really… (I am) (quite a bit, actually).
Don’t worry about my mental health too much; I have lots of coping mechanisms, and despite everything that is happening both to me personally and to the whole of the world, I can honestly tell you I am happy, and so grateful for this wonderful thing called Life.
Anyway… That was just a little intro to what I deem to be my problems, so if it’s something you are interested in, or maybe you know me, stay tuned… because I’m going to share my journey with the world.
I’m 100% imagining myself as some sort of chronically ill SJP from Sex in The City
More like this most likely.....
